COASTAL TECHNICAL GVI INTERNSHIP PROGRAM

Gallo Family Vineyards owns and operates various vineyards in Sonoma, Napa, Solano, Lake County, Monterey, Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo Counties.  We also maintain long term growing contracts with growers from Sonoma, Mendocino, Napa, Solano, San Francisco Bay, Lodi, Monterey and Washington State.  Fruit from these diverse growing regions supports a number of wine programs including:  William Hill, Louis Martini, MacMurray Ranch, Bridlewood Estate, Frei Brothers, Edna Valley, Ghost Pines, Mirassou, Rancho Zabaco and Columbia.

Job Summary

We are currently searching for appropriate candidates to fill a technical 6 month position (May – January) within our Gallo Vineyards Inc. An Intern will learn and apply engineering research analytics, designs, project management, and construction skills under the guidance of an experienced Technical Team Lead.  Interns will also have the opportunity to utilize engineering studies and modeling to determine future agriculture needs of our vineyards. Potential essential functions an Intern could participate in are:

  • Performs calculations and assists in research, design, and build of agricultural engineering solutions.
  • Contributes to increasing data collection technology and agricultural automation.
  • Contributes to managing and designing projects, developing engineering estimates, budgets and construction inspection.
  • Investigates products and generates reports for specific applications.
  • Assist in performing process management analysis to improve processes.
  • Assists in providing engineering designs and construction for various projects involving machinery, water, energy and soil.
  • Coordinates with customers and gains consensus on project design and construction.
  • Plans and develops experimental test programs, analyzes test data and reports to determine feasibility.
  • Gathers and analyzes data to determine feasibility of product proposal.
  • Collects, enters, organizes and uses GIS data.

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or State-issued equivalency certificate.
  • Currently enrolled at a college or university and working towards a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in the school of Engineering; or a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in the school of Engineering.
  • Required to lift and move up to 40 lbs.
  • Valid driver’s license. Required to obtain a California driver’s license or appropriate state driver’s license within 30 days of hire. Required to drive between various production sites and locations.
  • The position requires availability to work evenings, weekends and holidays when necessary.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Junior or Senior class standing at a college or university and working towards a Bachelor’s degree in the school of Engineering.
  • General viticulture knowledge.
  • Computer skills: Microsoft Office, Excel, Statistical Analysis (MiniTab, SAS), AutoCAD, Solidworks GPS Mapping and ArcMap.
  • Basic ability to speak and understand Spanish.

 

 

Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • Required to lift and move up to 40 lbs.
  • Inside/Outside conditions: work estimated at 70/30% (but not limited to) inside/outside with weather of varying types.
  • Wet/Slippery conditions vary and may include work in rain.
  • Required to work outside in hot weather.  Noise levels may vary.  Occasional situations where ear protection is required.
