E. & J. Gallo Winery is hiring a leader for our Winery Operations and Vineyards! This new postiion will be managing Vineyard Operations through building and maintaining relationships with LMC’s and FLC’s to ensure quality and cost goals are met. Responsible for developing winery relationships with internal and external customers, as well as sourcing new buyers. Also, develops and maintains an understanding and adherence to operational budgets, oversees production methods, ensures quality control, implements vineyard safety measures, and performs other functions relating to advancing viticulture and farming techniques.

What You Will Do:
• Oversees and works with land management companies (LMC) and/or field labor contractors (FLC) to farm the ranch. Assists in the selection, negotiation and adherence to LMC and FLC contracts.
• Projects vineyard workforce needs and ensures workforce is obtained and available to complete work.
• Coordinates with FLC to supervise the workforce including daily work scheduling and employee assignments.
• Creates plans and oversees vineyard development and redevelopment. Makes recommendations to senior leadership on how best to manage the vineyards to meet or exceed quality, quantity and cost goals.
• Works cross functionally with Coastal Engineering, Winemaking and Viticulture to maximize vineyard operations.
• Responsible for winery relations and functions as a liaison between vineyard and both internal customers and external buyers; educates and advises them on market conditions, quality standards and viticultural practices.
• Establishes and builds upon relationships to enable financial success.
• Sources new buyer partners as grapes become available and/or as required to meet plans.
• Negotiates all contract terms; responsible for contract creation and development, often utilizing unique templates and working with trademark agreements as applicable. Manages active contracts.
• Provides market intelligence on grape market pricing and availability and supports developing strategic sourcing plans for the assigned geographical areas.
• Partners with the Grower Relations department on market conditions, potential leads/sales and long-term supply plan.
• Functions as the GVI liaison that interfaces with the organization.(30%)
• Builds and manages budget and sales plan for assigned vineyards.
• Represents the company in various public relations and spokesperson capacities.
• Builds the reputation of the vineyards through grower tastings and provides education about the ranches.
• Communicates and interprets overall organizational directives and applies them to team and individual objectives.
• Provides input to management regarding LMC and FLC performance.
• Coordinates with LMC and FLC to develops team to solve day-to-day operational issues.
• Initiates, implements and manages projects with a short-term focus.
• Conducts presentations and formal training programs.
• Ensures GMP, a safe working environment, and quality assurance.
• Ensures safety training programs are in place.
• Monitors and ensures achievement of goals, objectives and timelines.
• Directs and coordinates activities of project personnel to ensure project progresses on schedule and within prescribed budget.
• Coordinates, schedules, and monitors equipment maintenance and repairs ensuring work is conducted in a timely and efficient manner. (30%)
• Ensures the consistent application of organization policies.
• Monitors the effectiveness of systems, policies and procedures and makes appropriate recommendations to ensure daily operations are efficient; implements approved changes.
• Handles unusual or difficult inquiries/situations through direct personal action or refers to the appropriate individual.
• Maintains satisfactory attendance, to include timeliness.
• Responsible for understanding and complying with applicable quality, environmental and safety regulatory considerations. If accountable for the work of others, responsible for ensuring their understanding and compliance.

What You Will Need:

  • High School Diploma or State-issued equivalency certificate.
  • Bachelor’s degree plus 5 years of ranch operations or winery relations experience reflecting increasing levels of responsibly; or 9 years of ranch operations or winery experience reflecting increasing levels of responsibility.
  • Required to travel to various company owned ranches along the coast (to include extended hours, weekend and late night assignments).
  • Required to possess or obtain a California Pest Control License or Applicator License.
  • Required to lift and move up to 50 pounds.
  • Valid driver’s license. Required to obtain a California driver’s license or appropriate state driver’s license within 30 days of hire.
