Located at William Hill Estates, the Maintenance Technical Trainee duties involve fundamentally preparing for, learning by various mediums, and some performing of troubleshooting, repair, preventative maintenance, and installation techniques commensurate with his/her knowledge, problem-solving, and other abilities as he/she progresses through the Maintenance Trainee Program. It is fully expected that at the conclusion of the Program, troubleshooting, repair, preventative maintenance and installation assignments will be performed with minimal supervision. Until qualified as a Maintenance Technician 1, the maintenance technical trainee is subject to all provisions of the Program.

What You Will Do:

  • Participates in machinery trouble-shooting; documents repairs made.
  • Replaces or repairs defective parts.
  • Works on assigned projects; responds to emergency maintenance calls.
  • Interprets technical documents (prints, manuals) as required.
  • Maintains constructive cross-functional relationships.
  • Communicates, discusses and shares information about equipment malfunctions with other maintenance workers and team leads to develop and implement a corrective action plan.
  • Evaluates and adjusts machinery for changes in materials, environment conditions, and operational error.
  • Searches for and executes against continuous improvement opportunities.
  • Performs work in a quality fashion.
  • Observes functionality of installed equipment and systems to detect mechanical, electrical or operational hazards to determine the need for adjustments, relocation, or replacement.
  • Operates machining tools and drill presses; performs basic welding operations.
  • Troubleshoots basic alarms related to key winery systems.
  • Provides preventative maintenance, repairs, and troubleshooting services for barrel processing equipment, bottling line equipment, and filtration equipment.
  • Provides preventative maintenance, repairs, and troubleshooting services for de-stemmers, presses, and crush pits.
  • Maintains shop machines, tools and facilities.
  • Promotes occupational safety standards; gives others feedback on their safety performance.
  • Follows shop safety practices and shop housekeeping practices.
  • Operates hand tools, and power tools safely.
  • Provides general facility maintenance and servicing for other departments.
  • Utilizes basic maintenance skills- welding, mechanical work, equipment adjustment, plumbing, masonry, pipe-fitting, troubleshooting and lubrication.

What You Will Need:

  • High School Diploma or State-issued equivalency certificate; plus 2 years of experience in a manufacturing/production environment or 1 year of Gallo winery production experience; OR High School Diploma or State-issued equivalency certificate; plus a Certificate of Completion/Achievement or Associate Degree from an industrial trade program, any California Junior College or other state’s equivalent, in one of the following trades/programs: Industrial Electronics, Machine Tool Technology, Industrial Electrical Technician, Mechanized Agriculture, Manufacturing Technology or their equivalent; OR High School Diploma or State-issued equivalency certificate; plus currently enrolled in a Certified industrial trade program, any California Junior College or other state’s equivalent in one of the following trades/programs: Industrial Electronics, Machine Tool Technology, Industrial Electrical Technician, Mechanized Agriculture, Manufacturing Technology or their equivalent.
  • Required to work a rotating shift/schedule throughout the year (day, swing, graveyard, 5x8, 4x10); required to work weekends and overtime when necessary.
  • Candidates for this position must have a valid driver’s license and a safe driving record. Required to obtain a California driver’s license or appropriate state driver’s license within 30 days of hire.
  • Required to perform job duties at extreme heights.
  • Required to be physically capable of executing any job tasks within Maintenance.
  • Required to provide own tools.
  • Required to enroll and complete six (6) approved, college-level, industrial technology related courses over the two-year training period receiving a grade of “C” or better; OR obtain an Associate’s Degree or Certificate of Completion/Achievement in an approved technical program.

What Will Set You Apart:

  • 3 years of experience in a manufacturing/production environment.
  • Skilled in forklift and aerial lift operation.
  • Experience working in a food manufacturing facility.
