Job Description:  


Research Scientist 1-Viticulture positions offered by E. & J. Gallo Winery (Modesto, CA). Conduct research focused on the improvement of wine grape production efficiency and wine quality.  Plan and conduct field experiments on topics such as vineyard design, training and trellising, pruning, irrigation, nutrition, canopy management, and crop load management.  Contribute to the development and deployment of technical innovations related to precision viticulture, variable rate management, mechanization, and automation.  Execute viticulture research strategies, programs, and projects based on corporate guidance and business needs.


Minimum Requirements:  


Requires a Ph.D. or foreign equivalent degree in Agronomy, Plant Science, Plant Physiology, Food and Wine Science, Viticulture and Enology or a related field. Coursework or experience must include: conducting multi-factorial research experiments in the vineyard examining the impact of cultural practices on fruit and wine composition, including fruit ripening kinetics and the accumulation of sugar and aroma, color, and mouthfeel compounds in grapes and wine; and performing advanced statistical methodologies including the use of R Software and meta-analysis for analyzing the results of field studies. Experience may be, but need not be, acquired concurrently. 

Hiring salary range posted: $114,400 to $147,000 per year.

Actual compensation paid within the range will be determined by factors such as the education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.
