A QAOS Lab Technician 3 will work on a team of Technicians that performs routine chemical and microbiological analysis necessary for controlling process and product quality. A QAOS Lab Technician 3 will also be responsible for leading the general direction of work-flow, and training less experienced Technicians on necessary processes. By doing this, you will have an immediate impact on outgoing final product quality to be delivered to our customer. 

What You Will Do

  • Lead the direction of work-flow for assigned shift; make decisions surrounding the prioritization of samples.
  • Train less experienced Technicians the appropriate response plans and protocols.
  • Actively participate in the “Hold” process, creating holds when sampled products do not meet outlined quality specifications.
  • Partner with QAOS Team Leaders to develop monthly shift schedules.
  • Lead advanced instrument and process troubleshooting.
  • Engage in data reporting and data review/validation efforts for your shift.
  • Perform chemical, and microbiological analysis using established methods on wine samples from the Modesto Cellar, Modesto Bottling, and other Winery departments up on request by QAOS Management.
  • Prepare microbiological growth media and various solutions needed for microbiological analysis using established protocols.
  • Aseptically collect samples from Winery tanks and equipment.
  • Engage in laboratory instrument calibration and instrument quality control.

What You Need

  • High school diploma or GED from accredited institution.
  • Bachelor's degree in a Natural Science discipline (e.g. Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Material Sciences, Physics, Astronomy, Earth Sciences, etc.), Enology, or Food Science plus experience actively conducting chemical/microbiological analysis.

       -OR-  4 years of experience actively conducting chemical/microbiological analysis.  

-OR- 4 years of E. & J. Gallo Winery Quality Assurance experience reflecting increasing levels of job responsibility.

  • Required to work swing or graveyard shifts when scheduled.
  • Required to lift and move equipment weighing up to 45 pounds.

What Will Set You Apart

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry, Microbiology, or Food Science plus 2 years of quality assurance laboratory experience reflecting increasing levels of responsibility.
  • E. & J. Gallo Winery Quality Assurance experience.
  • Experience reading and interpreting documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. 
  • Experience speaking effectively before groups of customers or employees within the organization.
  • Skilled in applying concepts such as statistical analysis, fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.
  • Experience defining problems, collecting data, establishing facts, and drawing valid conclusions.
