Are you a payroll expert looking for a short-term, impactful role? We are seeking a Payroll Technician for a 6-month temporary assignment to join our inclusive and dynamic team. You will manage payroll processing for over 7,000 employees across multi-state, union and non-union, domestic and international environments with multiple pay frequencies.
With minimal supervision, you will handle all aspects of payroll preparation, entry, and processing. This includes auditing and reconciling payroll for a base of 1,000+ employees. Your responsibilities will encompass managing payroll changes such as voluntary deductions, 401k loans, tax withholdings, and garnishments. Additionally, you will research and resolve out-of-balance conditions, respond to payroll-related inquiries, and generate manual or off-cycle checks as needed.
You will ensure accuracy by balancing and reconciling payroll registers with funding invoices, journal entries, and GL accounts. Compliance with union contracts, company policies, and relevant laws is essential, as is your role in balancing and validating payroll information for quarter-end and year-end filings. You will also prepare monthly payroll accruals and handle complex pay types, including bonuses and taxable fringe benefits. Efficiently generating periodic reports and maintaining control documents are key to ensuring accurate payroll processing.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree; OR High school diploma or State-issued equivalency certificate plus 4 years of experience working with computerized payroll systems to include 1 year of payroll processing in a multi-state environment reflecting increasing levels of responsibility; OR Associate’s degree plus 2 years of experience working with computerized payroll systems to include payroll processing in a multi-state environment reflecting increasing levels of responsibility; OR Associate’s degree plus 1 year of Gallo timekeeping experience; OR High school diploma or State-issued equivalency certificate plus 3 years of Gallo experience to include timekeeping experience reflecting increasing levels of responsibility.

Experience using discretion when dealing with confidential information.

Intermediate proficiency with MS Word and MS Excel, including basic Pivot Tables and vLookup function.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree plus 2 years of experience working with computerized payroll systems in a multi-state environment reflecting increasing levels of responsibility; OR High school diploma or State-issued equivalency certificate plus 6 years of experience working with computerized payroll systems in a multi-state environment reflecting increasing levels of responsibility.

Experience with processing payroll in a union environment.

CPP/FPC preferred.

Skilled in the use of a 10-key by touch.

Advanced Excel, ADP Vantage Payroll and Kronos timekeeping experience.

In depth knowledge of payroll tax reporting and requirements, and California state and federal payroll regulations.

Experience working under pressure, meeting aggressive deadlines and making effective and sound decisions.

Highly organized and capable of multi-tasking in a fast-paced environment.

Knowledge of payroll practices and regulations related to compensation, wage & hour laws, taxes, garnishments, 401K and section 125 deductions.

Skilled in reading, analyzing and interpreting general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations.

Skilled in writing reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals.

Skilled in effectively presenting information and respond to questions in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, peers, and other employees of the organization.

Skilled in solving practical problems and dealing with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.

Skilled in interpreting a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.

Skilled in calculating figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, and percentages. Skilled in applying concepts of basic algebra.
