As a Legal Analyst you will perform standard and advanced functions in the Trademark Group including research, data analysis, investigating, maintaining docket due dates and document review. Is also responsible for providing analyses and recommendations to Attorneys and Trademark Manager. You will apply knowledge of the department policies and procedures and utilizes a general understanding of other departments’ functions.

 

What You Will Do:

  • Manages both US and International trademark prosecution and enforcement matters for assigned Business Units and Brands.
  • Manages numerous critical deadlines in connection with some of the Winery’s most valuable assets.
  • Conducts in-depth research, compiles information and provides summaries to the Trademark Attorney and Trademark Manager.
  • Prepares and compiles important data and files appropriate documents with the US and International Trademark Offices and Trademark Trial and Appeal Board.
  • Conducts preliminary searches, label approval searches, and on-line investigations and provides summaries to Trademark Attorney and/or Trademark Manager.
  • Drafts design descriptions and descriptions of goods.
  • Communicates with Business Partners, outside counsel, and international trademark agents and lawyers regarding trademark matters.
  • Files extensions of time, tracks opposition deadlines, and keeps Trademark Attorney and Trademark Manager up-to-date on due dates and the status of matters. Offers solutions or recommendations for problem marks and applications.
  • Coordinates and instructs counsel regarding trademark prosecution and enforcement matters worldwide.
  • Researches and investigates third party use of trademarks for potential infringement. Analyzes investigation reports, summarizes information and provides summaries to Trademark Attorney and Trademark Manager.
  • Reviews and revises draft settlement agreements.
  • Reviews US and international watch reports.
  • Works directly with outside counsel in the compilation of evidence for use in trademark litigation matters.
  • Assists outside counsel with discovery requests and document productions.
  • Acts as the contact person between the Business Partners and counsel in litigation matters.
  • Runs weekly enforcement summaries to review with Trademark Attorney and Trademark Manager.
  • Reviews trademark country law updates and provides summaries when necessary.
  • Provides recommendations for new procedures, better filing systems and procedures.
  • Corresponds with brand teams seeking information for trademark purposes.
  • Creates and maintains desk manual.
  • Maintains satisfactory attendance, to include timeliness.
  • Responsible for understanding and complying with applicable quality, environmental and safety regulatory considerations. If accountable for the work of others, responsible for ensuring their understanding and compliance.

 

What You Will Need:

  • Bachelor’s degree plus 2 years of corporate legal trademark administration or legal experience reflecting increasing levels of experience; OR Bachelor's degree plus 3 years of Gallo experience to include business analytics work reflecting increasing levels of responsibility; OR High School diploma or State-issued equivalency certificate plus 6 years of corporate legal trademark administration or legal experience reflecting increasing levels of responsibility.
  • Skilled in the use of MS Word, MS Excel and MS Outlook at an intermediate level.
  • Required to use discretion when dealing with confidential information.
  • Extremely detail orientated, focus on data entry accuracy.

 

 

What Will Set You Apart:

  • Bachelor’s degree plus 4 years of corporate legal trademark administration or paralegal experience reflecting increasing levels of responsibility.
  • Experience with trademark databases and online searching programs.
  • Experience reading and interpreting documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Experience writing reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals.
  • Experience effectively presenting before groups of customers, managers, clients, and employees of organization.
  • Experience calculating figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Experience applying concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • Applies common sense to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Experience in solving practical problems and dealing with a variety of concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Computer skill requirements include: intermediate MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Access.
  • Knows the fundamental concepts, practices and procedures of particular field of specialization.
  • Performs routine work by following detailed instruction that requires little evaluation, originality or ingenuity.
