As the Integrated Absence & Accommodation Consultant, provides direction to employees, managers, internal partners, and vendors on integrated disability and absence management, including occupational and non-occupational matters, return to work, stay at work, and reasonable accommodations. Provides case management related to the interactive process for reasonable accommodations, internally managed cases, and return to work assignments. Performs and conducts workflow for job displacement; identifies and provides case management on the options after displacement. Works with displaced employees in a job search process, and comparable and non-comparable job offers. Serves as a liaison with vendors to provide relevant information to ensure data and systems reflect current statuses and activity related to program delivery. Builds strong, trusted relationships will in all interactions. Supplies accurate and timely service and information. Creates a personalized experience for those served.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

  • Serves as consultant to managers/supervisors regarding absence, leaves, short- and long-term disability plans, statutory disability and paid family leave plans, workers’ compensation, return to work, and reasonable accommodation.
  • Performs case management for end-to-end life cycle for leaves, disability claims, accommodations and return to work. 
  • Conducts the analysis with the department of undue hardship or indefinite leave status to minimize risk and ensure compliance with various laws and application of company policies, practices, and collective bargaining agreements. 
  • Advises on cases to make the determination a case is appropriate to be address under the fitness for duty workflow when an employee’s health and safety is in question and poses harm to self or others. 
  • Coordinates employer responsibilities and actions for end-to-end life-cycle process for program services.
  • Conducts department and company claim reviews with vendor, ensures action plans are in place and timelines are met or remain updated. 
  • Works closely with vendors, benefit partners, and regulations to ensure benefits are maintained for regulatory periods identified under federal, state, or local law, or company policies or union agreements.
  • Conducts and performs the interactive processes for regulatory and company requirements. 
  • Coordinates Stay at Work and Return to Work (RTW) medical accommodations, Fitness for Duty, short term transitional work assignments, and long-term accommodations.
  • Acts as liaison with vendors, brokers, consultants, State agencies and internal partners for leave and disability administrators, workers’ compensation claims administrators, employee relations, management, software systems and data providers, and medical providers to ensure proper data and administration occurs with applicable plan designs, laws, and company policies.
  • Finds gaps or opportunities to improve program services and recommends solutions.
  • Ensures proper integration of wage replacement benefits and interfaces with vendors and internal Payroll teams to ensure application of benefits to ensure timely and accurate payment of appropriate benefits. 
  • Works onsite at any of the operational areas such as: vineyards, bottling, warehouse, glass manufacturing, and administrative buildings to obtain understanding of work environments and requirements involved in conducting the reasonable accommodation interactive process.
  • Conducts case management meetings to update business partners on open leave cases.

 

WHAT YOU WILL NEED: 

  • Bachelor’s degree plus 4 years of Human Resources experience to include extensive knowledge of Disability Management, Leave Management, Return to Work methodology, and Accommodation laws reflecting increasing levels of responsibility OR High School diploma or State-issued equivalency certificate plus 8 years of Human Resources experience to include extensive knowledge of Disability Management, Leave Management, Return to Work methodology, and Accommodation laws reflecting increasing levels of responsibility.
  • Demonstrates effective communication, consulting, interpersonal and presentation skills, with the ability to create, work with, and influence diverse groups, people, and professionals in various disciplines. 
  • Understanding both federal and state leave laws for California.
  • Skilled in the use of MS Word, and MS Excel at an intermediate level.
  • Experience with HRIS and Payroll systems (i.e., ADP, PeopleSoft, etc.)
  • Experience solving practical problems and dealing with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Experience using discretion when dealing with confidential information.
  • Required to travel to company offices, sites, and/or meeting locations for onboarding, training, meetings, and events for development, department needs, and business delivery up to 5% of the time, with or without reasonable accommodation. This may be in addition to travel requirements, if applicable, as listed in this job description.
  • Required to be 18 years or older.


WHAT WILL SET YOU APART: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, plus 6 years of integrated disability and absence management, including conducting interactive process and working knowledge of workers’ compensation and disability management integration reflecting increasing levels of responsibility and complexity.
  • Ability to analyze leave data and make recommendations to management for absence management.
  • Experience with vendor management for program delivery of services provided.
  • Skilled in writing reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Experience presenting information and responding to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Experienced in using disability management duration guidelines for medical and workers’ compensation, including terminology and understanding the disability rating system.

 

Compensation

  • Hiring Salary Range Posted: $74,880 -$124,800
  • Actual compensation paid within the range will be determined by factors such as the education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.
