Are you passionate about the intricate science behind crafting exceptional wines? We are seeking a dedicated Chemist to perform both routine and advanced chemical and physical analyses essential to our winery's operations. This role is pivotal for quality control, winemaking, environmental monitoring, research, and product evaluation. You will also be responsible for troubleshooting analytical issues and training interns and technicians to ensure our processes remain at the forefront of the industry. 

 

In this dynamic position, you will oversee the development, validation, and implementation of new analytical methodologies and instrumentation, ensuring our lab maintains cutting-edge scientific capabilities. You will handle sample reception, prioritize tests, log results into our Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS), and prepare standard laboratory solutions. Your analytical expertise will be put to use with a variety of methods and advanced equipment, including ICP-OES, GCMS, LCMS, and IC. You will collect, analyze, and interpret experimental data, contributing to technical reports that meet customer needs.

Your role will involve engaging in laboratory quality assurance practices, including corrective/preventive actions, control charting, and internal auditing. You will troubleshoot advanced instruments, suggesting and implementing improvements to laboratory practices and methods. Additionally, you will play a crucial part in on-boarding and training laboratory personnel, sharing your technical knowledge, and ensuring compliance with ISO 17025 guidelines.

What You Will Need:

  • Master’s degree in Chemistry, Microbiology, Food Science, or Biochemistry plus 1 year of chemistry/microbiology laboratory experience reflecting increasing levels of responsibility; OR Bachelor's degree with a combined 20 college coursework units of chemistry, biology, and/or microbiology plus 2 years of chemistry/microbiology laboratory experience reflecting increasing levels of responsibility; OR High school diploma or State-issued equivalency certificate with a combined 20 college coursework units of chemistry, biology, and/or microbiology plus 6 years of chemistry/microbiology laboratory experience reflecting increasing levels of responsibility; OR High school diploma or State-issued equivalency certificate plus 7 years of chemistry/microbiology laboratory experience reflecting increasing levels of responsibility.
  • Required to successfully meet all requirements, including educational and experience background, to obtain certification in the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau’s Certified Wine and Distilled Spirits Chemist program.
  • Experience with complex automated laboratory instrumentation.
  • Experience maintaining and troubleshooting lab equipment.
  • Experience reading and interpreting documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Strong verbal, written, analytical and interpersonal skills.
  • Skilled in the use of MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint at an intermediate level
  • Skilled in adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing using whole numbers.
  • Required to maintain 3 shift availability (day, swing, and graveyard); required to work overtime when necessary; required to work weekends when necessary
  • Required to travel to company offices, sites, and/or meeting locations for onboarding, training, meetings, and events for development, department needs, and business delivery up to 5% of the time, with or without reasonable accommodation. What Will Set You Apart: 

  • Master’s degree in Chemistry, Microbiology, Food Science, or Biochemistry plus 2 years of chemistry laboratory experience reflecting increasing levels of responsibility; OR Bachelor's degree with a combined 20 college coursework units of chemistry plus 5 years of chemistry laboratory experience reflecting increasing levels of responsibility.
  • Experience working in an ISO:17025 accredited laboratory
  • Experience implementing or sustaining laboratory quality assurance practices including corrective/preventive action, document control, training records management, control charting, and internal auditing.
  • Experience applying mathematical concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.
  • Experience interpreting an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Strong instrument troubleshooting, maintenance and repair skills.
  • Experience effectively presenting information and responding to questions from groups of managers, clients and customers.
  • Experience solving practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Experience writing reports, business correspondence and lab procedures.

Compensation:

  • Hiring Salary Range Posted: $67,000 -$100,400/ Year 
  • Actual compensation paid within the range will be determined by factors such as the education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.
