Senior Analyst - Product Insights/Sensory Operations

As a Senior Analyst Product Insights & Sensory Operations you will under minimal supervision, engages in research projects that are designed to extrapolate data leading to the development of new or improved products, product guidance strategies, category understandings, consumer drivers and technical research. You will be responsible for translating research learnings to facilitate the development of consumer driven product specifications (style targets). Drives the implementation of the Product Style Attainment and Competitive Monitoring program.

 

What You Will Do:

  • Conducts competitive assessments and interprets existing company knowledge from foundational research to support the development of new products.
  • Develops and recommends revisions of our style targets to ensure that they meet the targeted consumer’s expectations identified in our foundational research.
  • Designs and conducts appropriate research, interprets experimental data (including experimental designs) and provides recommendations on technical research.
  • Supports the acquisition of consumer insights to support new product development, category understanding and consumer drivers to strengthen our foundational learnings .
  • Supports Base Business (existing brands) activities as assigned, including style attainment program and line extensions.
  • Supports technical research programs and the qualification of new packages and closures as needed.
  • Assists in panel recruiting, panel training, and reviewing descriptive data and performance analysis.
  • Assists in developing and implementing sensory training programs.
  • Provides support to other Product Insights & Sensory Operations (PISO) team members as needed.
  • Travels to different winery sites to conduct trainings & attend meetings or bench tastings as needed.
  • Defines the yearly calendar for each product style attainment program and conducts style monitoring of company products & key competitor brands.
  • Participates in department and interdepartmental planning and management teams; works cross functionally to improve processes within the organization.
  • Responsible for understanding and complying with applicable quality, environmental and safety regulatory considerations. If accountable for the work of others, responsible for ensuring their understanding and compliance.

 

What You Will Need:

  • Bachelor's degree in Food Technology, Food Science, Sensory Science, Enology, Viticulture, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Statistics, Psychology or Marketing Research plus 5 years of sensory, marketing research or product development experience reflecting increasing levels of responsibility; OR Master's of Science Degree in Food Technology, Food Science, Sensory Science, Enology, Viticulture, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Statistics, Psychology or Marketing Research plus 3 years of sensory, marketing research or product development experience reflecting increasing levels of responsibility; OR High School diploma or state-issued equivalency certificate plus 9 years of sensory, marketing research or product development experience reflecting increasing levels of responsibility..
  • Skilled in the use of MS Excel and MS Word at an intermediate level.
  • Required to occasionally lift and move up to 25 pounds.
  • Required to travel via automobile and air on occasion to execute job duties.
  • Candidates for this position must have a valid driver’s license and a safe driving record. Required to obtain a California driver’s license or appropriate state driver’s license within 30 days of hire.

 

What Will Set You Apart:

  • Bachelor's degree in Food Technology, Food Science, Sensory Science, Enology, Viticulture, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Statistics, Psychology or Marketing Research plus 8 years of sensory, marketing research, or product development experience in a Consumer Packaged Goods company reflecting increasing levels of responsibility; OR Master of Science degree in Food Technology, Food Science, Sensory Science, Enology, Viticulture, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Statistics, Psychology or Marketing Research plus 5 years of sensory, marketing research or product development experience reflecting increasing levels of responsibility.
  • Knowledge in different descriptive analysis methodologies.
  • Experience in leading descriptive panels preferably in wine or spirits.
  • Enology or spirits training and experience.
  • Experience with product development in a Consumer Packaged Goods company
  • Working knowledge of the area of specialization (sensory, consumer research and product development).
  • Experience working as part of a team.
  • Skilled in organization and multi-tasking.
  • Experience maintaining a sense of urgency and prioritization of projects.
  • Skilled in reading and interpreting professional journals and technical procedures.
  • Experience writing reports and effectively presenting information and responding to questions from peers and managers.
  • Experience defining problems, collecting data, establishing facts, and drawing valid conclusions.
  • Skilled in thinking strategically and translating into logical business applications.
  • Strong communication skills, verbal and written
  • Skilled in presenting technical research to a variety of audiences
