Do you have a passion to explore and transform the fundamental biology of winemaking? At E. & J. Gallo winery we are dedicated to fully understanding all steps of the winemaking process, from grape to glass. In this role you will conduct fundamental research on winemaking biology using modern tools of systems biology and translate discoveries to applied winemaking innovations. As part of our Microbiology and Systems biology team, you will collaborate with viticulturists, wine chemists, and wine makers to define the future of wine. 
What you’ll do:

  • Conduct fundamental research on the genetics and microbiology of winemaking
  • Leverage discoveries to innovate and improve winemaking
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across all aspects of winemaking

What You Need

  • Ph.D. degree in Biology, Microbiology, Plant Biology, Plant Science, Plant Physiology, Genetics, Systems Biology, Cell Biology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology or Biotechnology plus 2 years of research experience OR Master of Science degree in Biology, Microbiology, Plant Biology, Plant Science, Plant Physiology, Genetics, Systems Biology, Cell Biology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology or Biotechnology plus 4 years of research experience. 
  • Required to occasionally lift and move up to 50 pounds.
  • Required to possess specific vision abilities (color vision).
  • Required to identify and articulate variances in wine color by sight and identify wine flavors by taste and smell.
  • Required to be at least 21 years of age.

What Will Set You Apart

  • Ph.D. degree in Biology, Microbiology, Plant Biology, Plant Science, Plant Physiology, Genetics, Systems Biology, Cell Biology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology or Biotechnology plus 4 years of relevant grape and wine research experience with a demonstrated record of achievement and innovation in grape and/or wine quality improvement.
