As a Data Operations Engineer you will deploy, administer and support advanced data interoperability solutions using multiple tools and programming languages. You will use industry standards and best practices to ensure that data integration solutions are operational and working efficiently with a focus on automation, continuous integration, and continuous delivery. Responsible for service delivery, reliability, scalability, monitoring, and production support. Explores industry trends and makes recommendations on tools.

 

What You Will Do:

  • Maintains and supports application pipelines from development through Quality Assurance and into production.
  • Builds and installs relevant database platforms as requested by internal partners.
  • Troubleshoots issues to find root cause, resolves the problem, and closes support tickets for developers, data engineers, and data analysis in their data pipelines as they work towards production.
  • Builds the infrastructure required for optimal extraction, transformation, and loading of data from a wide variety of data sources using SQL and AWS big data technologies.
  • Builds analytic tools that utilize the data pipeline to provide actionable insights into customer acquisition, operational efficiency and other key business performance metrics.
  • Works with stakeholders including the Executive, Product, Data and Design teams to assist with data-related technical issues and support data infrastructure needs.
  • Keeps data separated and secure across national boundaries through multiple data centers and Amazon Web Services regions.
  • Creates data tools for analytics and data scientist team members that assist in building and optimizing our product into an innovative industry leader.
  • Works with data and analytics experts to strive for greater functionality in existing data systems.
  • Manages backups, monitors and alerts support personnel for data pipelines.
  • Executes promotions, automates promotions, and applies patches to applications and platforms.
  • Identifies and automates existing routine tasks in order to streamline workflow.
  • Analyzes current technology utilized within Gallo and develops steps and processes to improve and expand upon existing technology.
  • Establishes milestones for necessary contributions from departments and develop processes to facilitate collaboration.
  • Assists engineers with creating practical demonstrations of proposed solutions and demonstrates finished product to other members of the data operations team.
  • Provides detailed specifications for proposed solutions including materials, manpower and time necessary to complete request project.
  • Provides clear goals for all areas of projects and develops steps to ensure timely execution.
  • Works closely with engineering professionals within Gallo to maintain hardware and software needed for projects to be completed efficiently.
  • Mentors and trains engineers and seeks to continually improve processes companywide.
  • Works alongside project management teams to successfully monitor progress and implementation of initiatives.
  • Maintains satisfactory attendance, to include timeliness.
  • Responsible for understanding and complying with applicable quality, environmental and safety regulatory considerations. If accountable for the work of others, responsible for ensuring their understanding and compliance.

 

What You Will Need:

  • Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, MIS, Mathematics, Systems Engineering, Data Sciences, Economics, or Physics plus experience working in a product or platform development environment; OR Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, MIS, Mathematics, Systems Engineering, Data Sciences, Economics, or Physics plus 2 years of experience working in a product or platform development environment reflecting increasing levels of responsibility; OR Bachelor’s Degree plus 3 years of experience working in a product or platform development environment reflecting increasing levels of responsibility; OR High School Diploma or state-issued equivalency certificate plus 7 years of experience working in a product or platform development environment reflecting increasing levels of responsibility.
  • Exposure to functional (python, PowerShell) and object-oriented (java, Scala, Clojure) programming languages. Familiar with DB design patterns.
  • Must be familiar with at least 2 of the following database technologies: Oracle, Hana, MySQL, Postgres, Neo4J, RedShift.
  • Experience with notebook technology (Jupyter or zeppelin).
  • Understands the basics of programming in spark and python.
  • Experience writing ANSI SQL queries against at least 1 database.
  • Experience setting up and configuring a notebook environment as well as database pipeline tools (e.g., Spark Cluster, AirFlow, Glue, etc.)

 

What Will Set You Apart:

  • Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, MIS, Mathematics, Systems Engineering, Data Sciences, Economics, or Physics plus 2 years of experience working in a product or platform development environment reflecting increasing levels of responsibility; OR Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, MIS, Mathematics, Systems Engineering, Data Sciences, Economics, or Physics plus 4 years of working in a product or platform development environment reflecting increasing levels of responsibility.
  • AWS Solutions Architect - Associate Certificate.
  • AWS SysOps Administrator – Associate OR AWS Developer -– Associate.
  • Experience solving tough problems with the creative solutions, partnering effectively with various team members along the way.
  • Must be efficient, flexible, and communicative, possess a strong desire to implement change, growth, and maturity, and have a passion for continuous improvement of existing systems.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced and dynamic work environment.
