Participates in laboratory and field activities related to research and technology transfer in viticulture. Provides technical support to project managers and senior level staff by performing daily activities involving field experimentation, treatment evaluation, data and sample collection, and basic statistical and graphic analyses. Supports the technical needs of related groups within Winegrowing and technology including Chemistry, Enology, GVI, Grower Relations, CP&I and Process Technology.
What You Will Do:
• Participates in the development, management, and maintenance of vineyard plantings and field experiments in viticulture.
• Participates in plant propagation, vine training and trellising, and treatment application.
• Applies cultural manipulations include pruning, irrigation, and crop load management.
• Maintains and implements appropriate experimental protocols and field plot designs.
• Coordinates treatment applications and vine manipulations with vineyard managers and other personnel.
• Participates in data collection and basic statistical analyses.
• Participates in the maintenance of viticulture laboratory facility at the including equipment and supply inventory.
• Participates in the management of experimental wine inventory.
• Performs basic statistical and graphic analyses using Excel, SigmaPlot and other appropriate statistical software.
• Maintains satisfactory attendance, to include timeliness.
• Responsible for understanding and complying with applicable quality, environmental and safety regulatory considerations. If accountable for the work of others, responsible for ensuring their understanding and compliance.

What You Will Need:
• Bachelor's degree in Viticulture, Plant Biology, Plant Science, or Agriculture.
• Candidates for this position must have a valid driver’s license and a safe driving record. Required to obtain a California driver’s license or appropriate state driver’s license within 30 days of hire.
• Required to travel to vineyard locations throughout California. Occasional over-night travel.
• Required to lift and move up to 40 pounds.
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include color vision.
• High school diploma or State-issued equivalency certificate.
What Will Set You Apart:
• Bachelor's degree in Viticulture, Plant Biology, Plant Science, or Agriculture plus 2 years of vineyard management experience.
• Applied field research experience.
• Experience with reading and interpreting general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations. Experience with writing business correspondence and experimental protocols. Experience with responding to questions from managers and stakeholders.
• Computer skill requirements include: Intermediate MS Outlook, MS Word, MS Excel, MS Access, MS PowerPoint. Ability to type 45-50 WPM.
• Skilled in applying routine mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.
• Experience collecting and summarize data. Ability to interpret technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
• Experience with operating and maintaining equipment necessary for monitoring soil moisture and vine physiology including tensiometers, gypsum blocks, pressure chambers, light meters, IRGA, temperature monitoring devices, field scales and data loggers.
• Experience with learning and understanding new and unfamiliar processes.
• Experience with collecting and removing fruit and tissue samples from vineyard and transporting them to the laboratory.
• Familiar with the operation and interpretation of results from statistical programs such as SAS or equivalent biometric software.
• Experience with working effectively with others and on cross-functional teams.
