A Taste of What You’ll Do
As the Director of Quality for California Natural Color, you will shape and drive the strategic direction of quality across multiple sites, ensuring that every product meets the highest standards of food safety, compliance, and operational excellence. You’ll lead a connected, cross-functional approach to quality—partnering closely with teams such as Engineering, Finance, Sales, Compliance, Product Integrity, Lean Six Sigma, Supply Chain, and Operations to create a unified vision for quality systems and the processes that support them.
In this highly visible role, you will guide the development and execution of master quality plans, champion continuous improvement, and use data-driven insights to strengthen programs, enhance product reliability, and elevate the customer experience. Your leadership will extend into the laboratory environment as you oversee Chemistry and Microbiology teams, ensuring scientific integrity, precision, and best‑in‑class practices. You will also ensure successful completion of all internal and external audits with no major findings.
Your ability to balance day‑to‑day management with long‑range planning will help advance operational success across the organization. You will influence change, mentor quality leaders, ensure successful communication across stakeholders, and serve as the subject matter expert in quality systems. This role gives you the opportunity to create impact at scale—driving innovation, strengthening compliance, shaping organizational capabilities, and empowering teams to deliver exceptional results.
What You’ll Need
- Bachelor's degree plus 10 years of any combination of quality assurance, production operations, laboratory operations, or winemaking experience reflecting increasing levels of responsibility to include supervisory or managerial experience.
- At least 5 years of experience working within food safety and quality systems and global food safety initiative standards, leading science and data-based initiatives for an enterprise.
- At least 5 years of experience with leading a team responsible for any combination of quality, production, laboratories at a manufacturing site.
- Required to travel to company offices, sites, and/or meeting locations for onboarding, training, meetings, and events for development, department needs, and business delivery up to 5% of the time, with or without reasonable accommodation. This may be in addition to travel requirements, if applicable, as listed in this job description.
- Required to be 18 years or older. This may be in addition to other age requirements, if applicable, as listed in this job description.
How You’ll Stand Out
- Master’s or PhD in a life or physical science discipline plus 8 years of quality assurance, production operations, laboratory operations, or winemaking experience reflecting increasing levels of responsibility to include supervisory or managerial experience.
- Experience demonstrating process/continuous improvement experience (e.g. Lean Six Sigma, Kaizen, and TQM) on a departmental or organizational level.
- Experience working with all levels and functions within the company.
- Experience making effective and persuasive speeches and presentations on controversial or complex topics to top management, public groups, and boards of directors.
