The Quality Engineer develops, applies, and ensures the execution of food safety policies, quality assurance policies/procedures, and quality systems. Functions as a functional liaison ensuring consistent alignment of quality assurance objectives. Provides support in driving supplier quality performance specified in contract agreements, winery policies and brand protection expectations.

What You Will Do:

  • Designs, develops, and implements operations policies, procedures, systems, and strategies against Corporate Quality and Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) standards.
  • Facilitates and performs continuous improvement activities that employ root cause methodology and tools.
  • Leads Corrective Action and Root Cause Analysis (CAR) to drive root cause elimination and preventive actions for reoccurring quality and food safety issues.
  • Effectively manages Hold Process to quarantine product that does not meet specifications and manages re-select instructions and product disposition.
  • Applies and interprets statistical techniques as appropriate in quality related issues both internally and externally. Applies statistical techniques to sampling protocols to drive targeted sampling based on risk.
  • Leads Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) audits of assigned areas throughout the facility, reports findings, and works cross-functionally to address deficiencies.
  • Develops quality assurance reports as needed; communicates results to all levels of the organization.
  • Leads team projects or participates on teams to share information, perspective and direction on quality and food safety related issues.
  • Leads high profile and time bound quality and food safety related investigations.
  • Determines food safety training needs, develops tools and communicates aids to educate company employees.
  • Designs validation and verification programs to assure brand protection and specification conformance.
  • Interprets consumer complaint data to determine trends, root cause, and deliver continuous improvement
  • Must maintain satisfactory attendance, to include timeliness.
  • Responsible for understanding and complying with applicable quality, environmental and safety regulatory considerations. If accountable for the work of others, responsible for ensuring their understanding and compliance.

What You Will Need:

  • Bachelor's degree plus 5 years of quality assurance/quality control, production, operations, winemaking, spirits making, or engineering experience reflecting increasing levels or responsibility; OR High school diploma or State-issued equivalency certificate plus 9 years of quality assurance/quality control, production, operations, winemaking, or engineering experience reflecting increasing levels or responsibility.

What Will Set You Apart:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Food Science, Engineering, Enology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Microbiology; OR Biology plus 8 years of quality assurance systems management experience reflecting increasing levels or responsibility.
  • Experience auditing food safety or quality systems.
  • Manufacturing experience.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated team building, leadership and mentoring skills.
  • Demonstrated use of root cause analysis or Lean tools.
  • Experience defining problems, collecting data, establishing facts and drawing valid conclusions.
  • Experience making effective and persuasive speeches and presentations on controversial or complex topics to top management, public groups, and boards of directors.
  • Skilled in applying principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems.
  • Skilled in applying mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, or factor analysis.
  • Experience building relationships and influencing organizational functions such as Operations, Engineering, Supplier Development, and Supply Chain.
  • Skilled in the use of Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint at an intermediate level; additionally, experienced in Content Server, Minitab, WineManager, and LIMS.
  • Experience with Food and Beverage industry best practices, FDA regulations, and quality systems.
  • Experience effectively responding to sensitive inquiries and complaints.
  • Excellent organization and negotiation skills.
  • Experience handling multiple projects and effectively managing timelines.
  • American Society for Quality (ASQ) CQE/CQA Certifications.
